"Bodies Under Construction" is a series of paintings that explores the notion of female bodies in constant reconstruction. Here, the idea of the "broken body" is presented both literally and poetically. These bodies, despite their strength and vibrant presence, reveal signs of damage or fracture. The intense, eye-catching colors I use are almost a visual shout; bodies that want to be seen, that display themselves with pride, yet cannot hide that something has been broken, fragmented, and rebuilt.
In these bodies, the breakage is not only a symbol of vulnerability but also of resilience. As the philosopher and writer Julia Kristeva states in Powers of Horror, the broken body is a representation of the abject, that which lies outside the acceptable and the normative, yet because of that rupture, it has the power to renew and redefine.
These figures seem to be in a process of healing, as if struggling to maintain their integrity, yet at the same time, their fragmentation becomes an act of reclaiming their own identity. The vibrant colors not only attract the gaze but also reinforce the tension between the display of beauty and the recognition of an internal fracture.
