"Fragments in the Garden" is a series of paintings that depict scenes resembling the ambiguous image of flesh scattered on the ground. Are they worms? Is it discarded meat left to feed a dog, or perhaps the captured remnants of a new creature being born? What interests me about this behavior of flesh is the moment in transition, when we lose the ability to determine its origin or purpose. There exists a space in time where something is simultaneously coming into being, while also dying or moving through stages of change.
This series is ongoing, a process without a clear end. I may never be able to catalog all the forms, both new and old, that exist within these masses. What I seek is to capture matter in its natural, discarded state, lying amidst the grass. The variety of colors, curves, and how light interacts with this flesh is endless, constantly shifting and evolving with each new moment. The painting process mirrors this flux, as I continue to explore the boundaries between life, death, and transformation.
